First off, thanks!
It’s hard to boil down inspirations, seeing as there are so many artists out there.
Off the top of my head, I’d say: Milt Kahl, Chuck Jones & Al Hirschfeld. Also, I’m lucky enough to be motivated by a number of personal friends that are wicked artists (I always feel like I’m playing catch up with that crowd!).
I don’t know if I can appropriately say ‘how’, but I think it’s important to observe flow throughout the whole body, even in seemingly static poses. When I see a pose that I think ‘Oh, I’ve seen this a hundred times’ and it seems boring, I try to see how that person is pushing, pinching, twisting, and try to push it a bit more to inject some life. I’m not nearly as good / consistent in that as I’d like to be, but it helps break up the monotony.
